Birds of a Feather

Goldfinch on a Thistle
|
A goldfinch flew to my window one day
And started to peck at my screen.
He pecked and he punched and jumped around;
He seemed to be getting quite mean.
He'd fly to the maple and land on a limb,
Then back he would come once again.
From window to window he kept up the pace
In the living room and in my den.
Behavior like this is quite common for birds,
Especially when seeking a mate.
They hate competition and there in the glass
Is a goldfinch that's looking first rate.
So time after time this scene will play out
Until mating season has passed.
And then when the eggs are safe in the nest,
My goldfinch will find peace at last.
