Paths of Peace

I am a member of The Church of the Brethren. Our church has a motto: Continuing the work of Jesus: Peacefully, simply, together. Last week I posted my poem The River Flows, a poem that espouses simple living. This week I have written the second poem in the trilogy, a poem that espouses the ways of peace. I have yet to write the third one on togetherness. One of these days it will be posted here.

Paths of Peace

Our world is torn with war and strife;
Mankind is filled with fear.
The Master came to bring us life,
And longs to hold us near.

Disciples in the upper room
Were sad, their hope had ceased.
When suddenly he broke the gloom,
And said, "I bring you peace."

He taught them daily on the way,
"All people you must love."
You even want to pray this day
For those who push and shove.

They captured him and struck his face,
And pierced him with a sword.
They hung him high in deep disgrace
He cried, "Forgive them, Lord"

To follow him, we'll drop the sword;
Our warring ways we'll cease.
Our only hope is, with our Lord,
To walk the paths of peace.
