Together in His Love

The Church of the Brethren has a motto: Continuing the work of Jesus, peacefully, simply, together. As members of that denomination, we try our best to live by that motto, even though we often fail. I have written a trilogy of poems, all in the same meter and all with 5 verses, that espouse these three values. Peacefully: Paths of Peace; Simply: The River Flows; and Together: Together in His Love. All three of them can be sung to any hymn tune written in Common Meter: 8.6.8.6. For example, they would fit well to the tunes of Amazing Grace or Oh, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing.

Together in His Love

We gather here as Jesus' friends,
Each other to embrace.
We share His love and make amends;
Forgiveness, face to face.

In unity and love we share
Our best for those in need.
Together we their burdens bear;
Their souls and bodies feed.

We carry each, a heavy load,
Yet find the strength to win
Together on this long, hard road.
God's kingdom is within.

With hands and minds set to the task,
We every skill employ.
And for our neighbors' good we ask,
"Lord, fill their hearts with joy."

We gather here as Jesus' friends,
Our help comes from above.
God, keep us safe until life's end,
Together in your love.
