I recently read an an essay by John Shelby Spong entitled "Beyond Theism but Not Beyond God," found in the book The Future of the Christian Tradition, Robert J. Miller, editor as published in 2007 by Polebridge Press, Santa Rosa, California. Dr. Spong's words inspired me to write the following hymn:
Abundantly Together
(sung to the tune ST COLUMBIA 87.87)
Jesus of Nazareth came to build
a city on a hill;
A kingdom that's not made with hands,
but built by God's own will.
Christ came to bring new life to all,
and shares it still today.
God's love brings hope for everyone,
and grace to light the way.
The love that's given, we will share
with others on the way.
Abundant grace is offered all,
Christ bids them peace today.
There comes a vision of our God
to all with eyes to see.
And those who gladly hear the word,
share life abundantly.
